I have no idea what they would do, other than talk tough. But, I suspect there is a lot going on behind the scenes (other than trying to keep Israel on a leash). Things are rarely what they seem on the surface. I feel confident that we are in some kind of discussion with Iran at some level. That is the sort of thing that would not be broadcast in the media, and may involve unlikely 3rd parties (China? India?).

I always find it amusing that during the primaries and during the Presidential campaign when a candidate says that they would do this or that, especially in the area of foreign affairs. Once in office, they almost always come down to Earth with a thud, when they realize how complicated it is to get things done internationally. Even when the US is willing to go it alone, delicate relationships take a lot of finesse. There is a reason that the Department of State ranks slightly above the Department of Defense in the Cabinet.
