The Government fuel economy web site says "Using gasoline with 10% ethanol decreases fuel economy by 3-4%".

If straight gasoline is 20 cents higher than ethanol-added fuel and raises the price from $4 to $4.20, that equates to a 5% increase in price, and at lower prices per gallon the percentage price increase is even higher.

Seems that a 4% increase in mileage per gallon for straight gas over ethanol blend is not worth the 5% increase in the price.

Of course that assumes the government isn't engaged in prevarication. Anyone know of other scientific testing (not anecdotal evidence) that shows a different result?
