I have been coming to Lake Martin for only 15 years or so and have a more optimistic view. It seems to me that the number of fatalities on the lake has not risen in that period. One or two people each year and often not related to improper operation of the boats (i.e., jumping off the rock, accidental drowning, etc.).

And I was on the lake July 4th and it seemed pretty typical to me in terms of the number of boats, quality of operation, etc. I had one scary incident but that isn't atypical. And I wasn't aware of any deaths on the lake or even any significant accidents but the Marine Police haven't posted their report lately so maybe I missed it. I agree that a greater presence of marine police and/or sheriff's dept would be helpful as would greater boater awareness.

Its not that I am totally disagreeing with you, but all does not seem lost to me and your dire predictions are not inevitable.
