Between Monday, July 2nd, and Tuesday July 3rd, we had THREE boats come in with a complaint of "boat ran fine yesterday, and ran only about a minute this morning and quit. We had another on July 5th as well. Normally, our first test before work is to make sure the engine is trying to run on GAS, and not water, or anything else for that matter. Here are the results. Boat #1 12 gallons of water pulled from tank. Boat #2 16 gallons of water pulled from tank. Boat #3 9 gallons of water pulled from tank. (We had JUST serviced these boats) You get the picture by now. Here is what we think..... During the night, gas is being extracted from the suspect boat/boats. Then re-filled with water so that the boat does not run the next day, and has to go to repair shop to find out why. Most shops are backed up a couple weeks, so the gas thiefs have time to do this for a few days. My shop is normally not backed up and therefore we could check the boats and send them right back out. We test fuel BEFORE we do anything. Just an FYI, if you park your boat at your house with say 1/2 tank, and the next day you have a full tank, you got robbed. This is ongoing at this moment, and we have two more in the shop for same problem now. Remember, it is easy to rig up a remote bilge and pump water into a boat tank from the lake. I will let yall know how many this happened to over the next few days. And, no, I dont think you can possibly get that much water from your local gas station. This is a very serious post. So, if your boat is not running right. and at a shop, ask for a fuel sample rite quick. Also, we have contacted and are in communications with the Marine Police about this.
