I agree with the others that it is not L mode and must be something else. Have you checked the oil to see if it is milky in consistency? That is a sure sign water got into the engine and needs to be removed. Also, if you have an oil pump stick it in the bottom of the crankcase and see if you pull out water or just oil.

Alternatively you could do what I would do and take it to Cat so he can check it out.
