and agree that accepting the lesser of two evils is a bitter pill to swallow....but swallow it we must even if it is just for incremental improvements instead of real, long term solutions. We may just have to accept that deToqueville was right that the main weakness of democracy is that people eventually realize they can raid the treasury with their votes. Our system of government and our unique American spirit always held that at bay but with the sorry state of our education system and the left successfully letting no good crisis go to waste we have seen that erode over the last several decades to a point where it may not ever return.

You know, in most European countries the most highly desired and sought after jobs are with the government. We didn't used to be that way but we are now rapidly approaching that same situation. So maybe we can't stop it altogether but we have a moral obligation to do what we can to slow it down. Kind of defeatist but that's about the best I can muster in these dark days.
