Here is a picture in progress. First we reinforced the joists and sloped the framing while doing so.Then primed 3/4 inch tongue and grove plywood was screwed down. plywood was covered with roofing felt. 5/8" Durock was layered over felt and screwed down. Joints were taped and a layer of thin set was added. Thin set was painted with a rubber type coating made for tile wet areas and showers (providing a water tight barrier). Tile was set directly on the coating and grouted.
