Employees don't pay squat for unemployment insurance. Its all paid by the company. As for seniors paying into SS and Medicare, For Medicare the payroll tax only started in 1983 so any earnings prior to then did not contribute to the system. Also, employees only pay half of FICA and the employer pays the other half (unless they are self employed).

The real problem here is typical for any entitlement program.....what it was designed to do versus what it morphed into as a vote buying scheme. I don't have the exact cutoff date because it depends on the individual but suffice it to say that many of todays seniors have already or will certainly take much more out of social security than they ever put into the system......by a lot. That's obviously one of many reasons why it is going bankrupt and why it has morphed from a lifeline to seniors into generational theft.

And here is the real crime here....one that will never be prosecuted. Had you or I run SS the way the government has we would be in jail for fraud and for running a ponzi scheme. Just look at the results of those counties that were wise enough to opt out before they closed that little loophole. Grandma that made $25,000 per year for 30 years as a secretary with that county retires on $80K per year while Grandpa that lives in the county next door and made $45K per year isn't able to live on his $18K in SS benefits. Instead of running SS in a fiscally responsible way they pissed away that money by using it to buy treasury notes...essentially the govt took the money out of the SS fund and used it to fund the govt operations with a promissory note to pay it back later. Problem was in 1969 Lyndon Johnson decided it was a good idea to include those funds in the federal budget and presto.....a big surplus suddenly appears to pay for the Great Society.
