Wednesday was a perfect day to do some early, lower lake stripe scouting. I spent the morning cruising from Kowaliga up to Midway Island with an eye on the Lowrance. Water temp was 72 at the surface and clarity was excellent. There were several very large, well organized bait balls. One bait school was so dense that the Lowrance briefly read it as if it were the lake bottom. Other than the bait, there was little in the way of solid marks. The colder than normal spring weather may have them holding north for now, but they should show up in the Big Kowaliga basin shortly.

Stay tooned....
