I recently made a post in response to BeeKeeper Tony aka AC Councilman Goss.  I was rather harsh at that time because I felt he was not representing his constituents well in matters regarding cable tv service for the area.  He promptly reached out to me and let me know what he and a few others are doing in that regard.  I am not going to try to recall all the details here and now, but suffice to say I couldn't have been more wrong.  There are forces at work trying to achieve upgrades to both the infrastructure needed and the service provided.  I was pleasantly surprised to hear about both.  We both agreed that one of the issues is lack of communication on everyone's part, but especially where the council is concerned and getting info to the public.  He is also attempting to affect change in that area also, but as most of us know 'change' is slow to come in the area of politics at any level.  Many of the elder statesmen, not only here, but across the country are having to be drug kicking and screaming into the 21st century.  I see no reason that every meeting can't be televised and even be made available as webcasts and podcasts for viewing at the voters leisure.

One thing I learned from speaking with him is that cable companies no longer have exclusive rights to any territory.  In the early days of cable most did require exclusive territory due to the high cost of installing infrastructure and the need to recoup those costs quickly.  Now it is only a matter of paying the franchise tax/fee of 5% of revenue and any company that wishes to enter the area can do so and only be bound by the same agreement to pay the 5%.

Mr. Goss has a big view for the area and is trying very hard to gain traction in an effort to help realize the full potential of the area.  I am not going to elaborate and put words in his mouth.  He is very eloquent and capable of speaking for himself and from my experience is very open and willing to do so.  Maybe he will choose to post some of the things he is working on and elaborate on his vision for the area on this forum.  I chose to place this post in the Lake Topics section because although not necessarily lake related it is strictly related to this area and plus the fact that many don't read the Off Topic Forum and I wanted this to reach as many local folks as possible.

Bottom line is Councilman Goss understands what it means to be elected to a position of public service and he takes those duties seriously.  As I told him at the end of that first conversation, I live in the Gap and can't vote for him, but I can and will volunteer on his next campaign should he ask me too.

I asked his permission to make this post at the end of out first conversation several weeks ago but have just now had the opportunity to do so.  I considered added his contact info but since I didn't specifically ask if that was OK I am not going too, although I am sure he wouldn't mind.  He is easy enough to find and you can always do so through the forum.  As he told me early on he comes here as BeeKeeper Tony not Councilman Goss.  Maybe that will change a little now.
