The once great state of Kalifornia has been a petri dish for what you get with unbridled leftist control of government. And like every other example across time and space, the results are not pretty. Very interesting analysis of the economic train wreck that is left wing nuts. Joel Kotkin of the Daily Beast has done a very detailed analysis of Kalifornia and it should be required reading for all Americans so we don't allow Harry "Let the kid die of cancer" Reid and TOTUS do the same thing to the rest of the country. As Mr. Kotkin says, Kalifornia is going feudal.

Some highlights.....or maybe better described as lowlights:

1. As recent as the 1980's 60% of residents were middle class. Now after years of Democrat control the state has one of the highest levels of income inequality ala bastions of freedom and economic success like the Dominican Republic, Gambia and the Republic of Congo...i.e., third world countries run by petty cleptocratic dictators.

2. Has the highest levels of poverty in the country (~24% vs 16% nationally). It is home to 1/3rd of our nation's welfare recipients and is worse than long-term hard luck cases like MIssissippi. So Kalifornia starts wealthy and goes poor with years of Democrat rule.

3. Downward mobility is the rule of the day. One stunning example, native born Latinos actually have a shorter lifespan expectancy than their parents that came from some poverty ridden third world country.

4. Of course none of this applies to the wealthy class where the rich are getting much, much richer while the poor get the shaft as a result of leftist policies. For example, the state has done everything in its power through regulation, taxation and raw material costs to drive away those industries that generate middle class jobs.

As Winston Churchill put it so well, all socialism does is create equal misery.....for the masses anyway. The left wingers in Hollywood and Silicon Valley are doing quite well so let them eat cake.
