The same thing happened to us this year.  We ended up replacing both the pump and all of the PCV pipe running from it down into the lake.  This time, however, I put a shut-off valve at the end of the pipe so that I can drain it after the water level goes down in the winter.  I will also drain the pump itself in the future, which I neglected to do last fall.  We did all the work ourselves which was pretty easy since we just repeplaced the existing pump with an identical model.  Bought the pump at Moores Hardware in Dadeville.  The new pump and PCV pipe, valves etc. cost @ $400, but we have learned a valuable lesson--and education is expensive!  Good luck.
