Below is a message posted on Facebook by the mother of one of the boys.  Hope that this will help keep us all aware of how quickly things can happen.

Update on Reese:
Since many of our friends don't live near us, they don't get an email or word of mouth update on Reese and our family. This will hopefully catch everyone up on the last week of our lives.
Our son Reese (12 yr.) and his friend Jacob were in an accident last Saturday at Lake Martin in Dadeville, AL. They were both airlifted to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL.
Jacob sustained a head injury and had to have surgery. He's resting at home now but will have another surgery in his near future. Since I didn't speak to his parents before writing this, I'll let them share more detail if they choose.
Reese sustained a severe concussion which resulted in a severe brain injury. He has made a good bit of progress these past 8 days. When we first saw him in the PICU, he was on a ventilator and sedated. Today he is able to stand, walk (unsteadily), use his hands & arms, sit upright, and communicate clearly with others. He even smiled his old smile today!
He still struggles with some simple tasks. Today it was shooting a basketball, which is usually second nature to him. This frustrates him greatly since sports is his passion.
Although we have a long road ahead of us, we see tiny glimpses of the old Reese surfacing each day. He makes small improvements every day and we trust the Lord to walk with him through every moment of his recovery.
So thankful for the overwhelming outpouring of prayers, love, and kindness that has been shown to our family. It's as if Jesus reaches down and hugs us each day through the lovingkindness of his people. You have truly been His hands and feet to us! For this we are humbly grateful.
Please continue to pray for Jacob's & Reese's complete healing with no permanent brain damage. Blessings to all of you!
