The US and UK were allies of the Soviet Union in WW2 and provided them with arms, supplies and technology.  Helping the Afghans defeat of the USSR in Afghanistan helped end the Cold War without having to fire a shot.  Seriously GF, I would ask what point you were trying to make but that would be pointless.
