All correct info OSMS. I wasn't meaning to scare anybody but folks on here do tend to be a little reactionary. I didn't get my point across very clearly either. What I meant to get across is that the same or similar circumstance today might result in the lake rising well above 490 now whereas back then it was basically impossible for her to flood because of the overflow issue that existed back then. It has since been resolved. Although this has been a substantial flood it is still nothing compared to '79. I remember it well.  That winter/spring was very wet. I lived between the Talladega and Tallasahatchee creeks less than a mile from where they emptied into the Coosa. For several days I wouldn't even drive across the creek bridges to go into Childersburg for fear of a washout. Both of this bridges were replaced shortly after that. I have full faith and confidence in APCO/SOCO to properly manage the flood waters to minimize negative impact throughout the system.
