If you recall, the Clintons didn't exactly have a stellar relationship with the military and they never served either.

This is a true store, because I was working at the Pentagon at the time:

The first time Bill Clinton came to the Pentagon as "Commander in Chief", they couldn't find many military members that would actually to out  for the arrival ceremony.  I know for a fact, that the Chief of Staff of the Army, had to issue a direct order that they go outside for the ceremony.  That's how the military felt about the Clintons.

Later, there were stories (in the Washinton Post, I seem to recall) about how the Clinton staff would shove plates of hor'derves and ask very senior Military people to  pass them around to the guests at cocktail receptions.  Believe me, there is no love lost between the military and either one of the Clintons.  I feel sure that the vast majority of military members would rather take their chances with Trump than to have to work for Hilary.

And while we're on the subject, take what Michael Hayden, former director of the CIA, has to say with a grain of salt.  He has sour grapes because his political ambitions have no been realized.  Now he is just a paid talking head, i.e. anaylst, expert, to whatever media will have him.  A lot of retired Senior Generals have propencity to speak out on political issues and most of the time they don't have any more insight than anyone else, but they believe their former rank gives weight to their opinions. Egoism is alive and well among General officers.
