Definitely was not calling you a racist.   I was being sarcasic &  saying that if you had lived here when you were young, you might have a different view of how bad it was.  I think many people would prefer to forget that period of US history (that being both slavery and the subsequent 150 years of trying to keep ex-slaves out of general society).   The further it gets into the rear view mirror, the easier it is to forget it ever happened or what it was really like.

Lots of white folks resent things like Martin Luther King's birthday, Black History month, etc... because they see it as giving special rights to a minority of people.   I don't see it that way.   The new museum in DC & it's like are for reminding us of how bad those days were.   

We had better not forget or we could fall right back into a time when racial animosity is considered rational & normal.
