depending on the age of the laptop either the onboard video or the monitor just went out.

If its under warrenty take it back to visit Mr. repair man

its ifs not buy a new one - 

if you want to troubleshoot - if it has an external video port connect it to an external monitor via a cable ( may or may not require adapters you do not have ) if you get video - its the monitor, if you get the green line its the video ( which is probably built into the motherboard on most laptops.  

Depending on the make / model parts can be had and with proper screwdrivers and patience it can be resolved.
