I have 3 dogs, I live here full time, and my dogs roam, because they are hunting dogs.  They don't go into the neighbor's yards, because we have taught them not to.  Instead them roam the woods surrounding our house.  That said, leaving a dog to roam in a place that is not familiar to them is asking for trouble.  Fireworks, firecrackers and my dogs come in the house (actually they are barking at the door to be let in).  They are also afraid of gun shots.  They are microchipped and also have our name and address.  My neighbors know that if they do anything in their yard, on the off chance they go hunting there, I am responsible and  I will fix any damage that they might do.  I don't allow my dogs to stay out out on the porch and bark.  I appreciate that on weekends and holidays, people around me come here to relax and don't want to deal with my dogs and/or their barking.  I love dogs and good natured dogs are okay to visit.

The thing about it is that we all need to live in harmony in this beautiful place.  It really saddens me whenever I read someone has lost their dog, and if they are anywhere near my location, I will keep my eyes open for a chance to reunite the dog and his owner.  Unfortunately, this area seems to be a dumping ground for unwanted dogs - I know this, because all 3 of mine came from that situation.  It is people, not dogs, who should be ashamed.
