I agree with you completely. The best way to put an end to meaningless virtue signaling is to ignore them. If they didn't get the attention they would get back to smoking dope and driving their new Lamborgini with their entourage. The mishandling of this from day one by the NFL has been breathtakingly pathetic. Why Goodell still has his job is a mystery to me. I suspect it is primarily because of the TV contract that is now killing the networks given the lower ratings. Next time around will not be so pleasant for them or the owners and players.
