For example Fish, Bezos, who is arguable a centibillionaire, pays himself an Amazon salary.  That salary happens to be around 80K/yr.  The remainder of his wealth is in the form of unrealized appreciation.  This means he has not paid ANY income tax on it and probably never will.  If he desires to exercise his philanthropic desires, he can donate appreciated Amazon shares to any social welfare organization and not pay ANY taxes on the appreciation.  Not against the law per the IRS, but shrewd and diminishes IRS receipts.  How is this  any different from what Fred did?
