Does seem like an unqualified blanket statement.

In my opinion, the GOP and conservatives in general, are students of history and civics... especially the content and intent... of the Constitution.  

I find that most conservatives... as oposted to liberal Democrats... listen to reason.  They apply the lessons of their own lives, the realities of history and current events, and in many cases, the tenets of their (religious) faith.  I would guess (I have no proof) than most conservatives consult a handy, worn copy of the Constitution. 

I have come to recognize... not only that am I politically independent... but, that I am a classical liberal.  Sufficiently educated in and connected with history, civics, true science, mathematics, ethics, religion… having experienced real work (menial and professional)… lived among diverse cultures… been elated by success and honed by failure…  I HAVE THE RIGHT TO MY OWN THOUGHTS.  And, if YOU say something stupid to me… I will surely catch it immediately.  AND, only because I cherish a civil demeanor… will I not trash you over your ignorance.

I believe that... like gravity... all things animate and inanimate are connected by a "string."  By stringing together facts and reason... one can approximate truth. The REAL truth is known only to GOD. I have a tough time decerning facts and reason from the stridency which appears to possess the Democratic party.  e.g. Discuss for me the successes of socialism and communism.
