His lawyers probably convinced him he was screwed and the best he can hope for is to plea to some lesser charge.  The phony hate crime report was bad enough but he woud probably get away with a slap on the wrist.  But I am betting they also have him for the letter which is a bit more problematic because he used the U.S. Mail which gets the Feds involved.  That is not going to go away as easily.  

I will say I am joyful that this was a hoax and I have zero sympathy for this guy and hopes he ends up spending time in prison.  One reason is that there are a great many more fake hate crimes each year than real ones and this is a disservice to those that are actual victims.  They will not be believed as readily because of all these fake stories.  Second reason is his interview with Robin Roberts.  I realize he is an actor but it takes a true narcissistic sociopath to say some of the things he said in that interview knowing full well he was lying through his teeth (and please Goofy, don't bore us to death with a post about Trump's lies).  Finally, I find it particularly vile that he tried to pin this on Trump supporters and MAGA hats.  As we have seen recently there are numerous hate-filled attacks of people wearing these hats, including the Covington Catholic kids, the numerous videos of verbal harassment and the idiot in Tennessee that pulled a gun and threatening to shoot a guy wearing one.  He obviously suffers from TDS and I am worried that Goofy and the others will get the wrong idea and get caught up in a hoax or threaten violence to some old guy wearing a hat they don't like.  Seek help TDS sufferers, before you end up doing your own perp walk.
