The amazing thing about the whole sub-prime mortgage fiasco is how many times over the years the GOP tried to fix the problem only to be called mean-spirited racists.  Nothing was further from the truth.  Forcing banks to provide mortgages to people who were unqualified and less than a paycheck away from foreclosure is neither kind nor compassionate to those that fell for it.
