I can't imagine that any of them harbored the belief that these two ridiculous articles would ever get 2/3rds.  If they did they are completely gone.  The reality is that they consider this a victory because Romney voted yes on one of the articles.  So the vote in the House to impeach was on purely partisan lines with a few defectors and the vote to acquit was purely partisan with one-half of a defection.  What will be interesting is whether and to what extent this charade impacts 2020.  That was the goal all along and it remains to be seen.  That is the real test.....not this phony impeachment debacle.

And I give the Democrats credit for getting Manchin and Jones to vote against their own best interests.  Jones I get.  He is toast, especially if Sessions is the nominee.  But Manchin's decision is a little baffling.  I can't imagine it will help him if the GOP has a strong candidate but whether and how much it will hurt remains to be seen.  He doesn't run again until 2024 so maybe all will be forgotten and Trump will be finishing his second term then so there will be no incumbant on the GOP side either.
