You all keep missing the basic point. This is not about protecting yourself. This is about decreasing the distance from an unsuspecting presymptomatic/asymptomatic viral shedder's  face so he doesn't expose some unsuspecting passerby in the supermarket aisle. If you can keep YOUR OWN exhalation droplets closer to your face you will decrease the chances of someone else breathing them in. It's about respect for OTHERS, a concept which is clearly foreign to MM.
