Yes and no. If you are doing your job, then the government will represent you in any law suit that pertains to your official duties, but it doesn't protect you from a civil lawsuit which can tie up you assets for years. The reason i and the people that worked with had it was because we were making decisions that could affect millions of contractual dollars by industry. I had a guy threaten to sue me, when I returned his license application without action, because he did not provide sufficiently detailed information for us to make a determination. (in the end, he didn't).
Of course, it is your individual choice since you have to pay for it yourself. Our agency lawyer recommended it, and no, he wasn't selling the insurance.
