IMO, politics follows the culture, not the other way around.
Whatever debate that did happen it was 2 against 1. Chris Wallace had multiple Candy Crowley moments and continuously threw lifelines to Biden when he was struggling. And he acted like he was interviewing Trump but allowed Biden to drone on. Regardless of the nature of the event the biggest loser was the so-called moderator. And sadly, he is probably the best we will get in these debates.
My view is that Trump saw what Biden did to Paul Ryan who was there to debate and was instead attacked mercilessly and looked weak and unprepared. Trump was not going to let that happen.
Interestingly, post-debate polls of Hispanics on Telemundo had Trump winning the non-debate debate by a 66/34 ratio. CSPAN had Trump winning 53/29.
