I'm optimistic for the new mayor. He's been pretty outspoken about the need for change and transparency, in the past. He has a tough battle since Russell is deeply entrenched in Alex City and so many people don't want change - they want things to go back to how they used to be- not move forward. And he has to fight the demographics which are not condusive to attracting new businesses. That's the reason that the Publix decided not to come to Alex City. As far as downtown, someone needs to decide if they are going to cater to the population that makes up Alex City - blue collar, low income or if they are going to try to entice people on the lake. They want to develop the 280 corridor, but they need individuals willing to invest. They did a study a couple of years ago that indicated that a number of franchises wanted to come, but they needed people with money to invest.
