I have not built any big bore versions - a few 5.56, a couple of 300 BLK, and a .308...  I do have a can that I got MAINLY for .45 ACP, but is rated for the 458 SOCOM, so I may look into that for my next build.  ;-)  Right now my big bore is a S&W 500 revolver, and I reload 375, 500, and 440 grn for it...  The 440 hard cast gas checks will leave a mark on both ends - I think my wife went through four rounds before she had enough.  I am sitting pretty good as far as components are concerned, picked up some Berger 190's and Barnes 150's in .308 to try about a month ago.

From the house we are about 1 1/2 hours from the CMP range, and although I have heard good things about it, we have not been yet.  The nearest public range tops out at 100 yards, and when it is not deer season a friend has access to a place that we can stretch it out to 550 - 600 yards.  But I agree about finding a place to air these things out.
