Your understanding of back room politics is wanting. Mitch is, when all is said and done, a RINO. He is making a call on who he feels will be buttering his bread. Much like what he did to the Tea Party, he is banking on Trump supporters just fading off into the woodwork and going away. Unfortunately, I think the next couple of years within the GOP will be ugly. Individuals that betrayed Trump will face stiff primaries, there will be in-fighting, but my prediction is that MAGA will prevail within the GOP and be back even stronger. All this despite Nanzi's threat of indoctrination camps for those of us who remain Trump supporters. Mitch is making a purely long term political call, if he felt that hitching his wagon to the MAGA movement was going to allow him to regain the Senate majority post, he would have done so. I think he will regret his decision.
