Yes, you are talking about basic training.  But in my opinion, the military training, and including the mental indoctrination, is much more extensive.  A military friend likened it to "tearing you down, but then building you back up".  And there is training beyond basic.  Besides, except in recent years, no one brought you up on charges for killing the enemy.
