I would encourage all here to read the transcript of the oral arguments from yesterday's USSC session regarding Alabama's redistricting laws.    Alabama's Solicitor General, Mr. Edmund G. Lacour, Jr. went toe to toe with Justices Kagan, Sotomayor and Jackson and I was impressed how well he defended the constitutionality of Alabama's race neutral re- districting in 2021 against the onslaught of accusations from the liberal justices that the Alabama legislature was racially motivated.  Regarding the intent of the Fourteenth Amendment, he had this to say to Justice Jackson:

MR. LACOUR: The Fourteenth Amendment is a prohibition on discriminatory state action. It is not an obligation to engage in affirmative discrimination in favor of some groups vis-à-vis others.

Justice Jackson, it appears, likes to hear herself speak, unlike Justice Thomas.  Her agenda is nothing less that than what you would expect of her judging from her previous rulings.
