Float swithches are real bad about deciding to just quit or run all the time. They take a real beating in the boat when there is no water to pump. They bounce up and down on the bottom of the hull every time you hit a bump and just get the life beat out of them. I understand your need for the float if your boat is not under cover and in the water all summer. I would recomend looking into a pump with a built in switch or just replace the float type every other year or so just to be on the safe side.
