Longtimelaker, the accident you speak of when the "loud boat" ran up the back of the pontoon boat is also incorrect. I was at that scene about 5 minutes after the accident that evening, and, the driver of the powerboat is a friend of mine. The driver is a respectable person. It was an accident. The boat was not a very loud boat and noise had nothing to do with it.. However, most night time accidents happen because of pi$$ poor navagational lighting technology that we use today, the same stuff thats been around for 75 years. Unless you are simply idling around, it's very hard to see 90% of the boats on the water because of background clutter, lighting on docks and other distractions. Think about it this way..... we are all out there navagating the lake, in the dark, depending on a .15 cent bow or stern lightbulb to let us know there is another boat nearby, or let others know we are there. Try that with a car on the interstate! At least some put strobes and L.E.D. lights on to make themselves safer and more visible. Sorry to vent on this subject, but it just ticks me off. Admit it, it's hard to see other boats in the dark, requires your UNDIVIDED attention and is difficult at best. What we need is better navagation lights. Yall be safe!
