Subject:   Identify Snake

I was at the lake this past weekend and noticed a small flapping fish at the water's edge in the weeds left exposed by receding water. When I got up to look at it the fish was in the jaws of a snake. It had obviously snagged this fish and was dragging it out of the water to eat it. The snake was brown with a pattern, light colored belly, about 20 inches long, with a bit of orange around its mouth. It slithered away too fast for me to grab a camera and take a picture of it. Anybody got any ideas what this snake was?

I know that snakes have been discussed extensively on this forum, so I apologize to any of you who are sick of the topic.
