I have heard all excuses for the proposed law. I sympathize with most rational arguments. Most people do not know that their complaints already have legislation, which some boat owners are already ignoring. The loud and fast boats are currently violating noise ordinances. I agree that when you are tied off at "The Rock" you should not have your boat slammed up against the one next to it. There is existing legislation outlawing operating a boat which creates wake in a congested area. Not to mention the careless and reckless operation laws. The "Residence Boats" are required to have lock-out features on their sewage systems which will keep the sewage from being dumped overboard. There is a law that requires these systems to be inspected annually. If these laws were enforced then most arguments FOR this bill would become a mute point.

There will always be big waves in open water when many boats are in operation, REGARDLESS of the size of boat. It’s called wave dynamics. Any time two opposing wave collide a “Standing Wave” forms, which multiplies the wave height of the originating waves (the height of the two waves multiplied by each). If a third wave is introduced then there is a third multiplier. SO, three opposing pontoon boats will create a wave height much more than a cabin cruiser, even at plane speed.

These laws need to have scientific or statistic benefit in order to sell me on the fact that any of these arguments are anything other than two large corporations using their political influence to wage war!
