"WOW! Am I ever glad I actually took the time and effort to read the proposal, so that I'm aware that my boat, as an existing boat on Lake Martin, would be grandfathered in, so that I didn't have to worry about violating any new laws."

Then I would sit back and contemplate the issue, to try to see why so many people are vehemently opposed to my big boat. I would soon understand that my boat, legal or not, is simply out of place on Lake Martin.

Of course, I would also realize that, inappropriate or not, I already had my boat, so I had better go out of my way to be a better, more considerate boater. I would stop running it at those just-above-idle, monster-wake creating speeds that are the root cause of much of the anti-big boat feelings out there. I would realize that "Hey! Just because I have a bigger boat doesn't make me a better person than those people in the small boats; this is their lake, too, and they have opinions that matter just as much as mine. And not only that, they deserve to enjoy the lake in their boats just as much as I do."

I would hope that they would forgive the selfish attitude I had been displaying, and I would vow to be a better boater, and a better person, from this moment forward.

Of course, that's what I would do; as someone who tells people who happen to disagree with you to "Bite Me!," you'll probably do something different. But, it's what we've all come to expect, so it won't be a surprise.
