Ok, I am still a little confused by all of this. I will list negatives and positives with my opinions for each.
NEGATIVES
1. Big boats cause bigger wakes. -True, but not at the rate of a typical windy day, storm, or busy day with small boats (fishing tournament). EXISTING LEGISLATION covers causing wake in congested area (lets say the rock on the weekends?)

2. Big boats are dumping sewage. -Not true, they store it and it is pumped out into a septic tank from the marina. EXISTING LEGISLATION requires annual inspections! Little boats have no provisions for this, therefor they go into the water!

3. Big boats impede my view of the lake. -Come on, how many times has a cruiser parked between your dock and your view?

4. Big boats bring down property value -They ARE NOT mobile homes. I have never seen a 33 foot mobile home cost $250k and up. My boat is 10 years old and is still worth more than most mobile homes.

5. Big boats are loud -True for some, however EXISTING LEGISLATION covers the decible level emitted from a vessle.

6. Big boats are fast -True and false. My boat is 660 horsepower and tops off at 38mph. The "go fast" boats are fast, and designed for spped. There is EXISTING LEGISLATION covering careless and reckless operation of all boats. Speed alone is not considered either of these two.
Many bass boats are much faster than the limit in this bill.

7. Residence boats -What is wrong with spending the weekend on the lake? I am at Anchor Bay and NO ONE is living in their cruiser.

8. "Georgia passed legislation enforcing greater building standards on their mobile homes and Alabama seen an influx of sub-standard mobile homes. We don't want people from Georgia running to our lakes with their big boats when they are being banned from the Georgia lakes" -Quote from Senator Dial directly to me on the phone. Where would they put them? In case you are blind, the marinas which support these boats stay full (even with the Ridge expanding). AND from my previous statement, how can you compare a late-model cruiser to a mobile home?

9. Those boats were built for the salt water and offshore -? I don't understand this one. Have you ever been in four to ten foot seas on a 33 foot boat? (Me either) Should we be forced to put our investment in salt water and let it deteriorate because of your opinion?

10. My pontoon boat almost gets capsized when a big boat passes - As with ANY approaching wave, steer into it. If its so dam big you should see it coming.

POSITIVES
1. I can afford a bigger boat and a wet slip, but cannot afford a lake home- Therefore the "option" to own a cruiser WAS a nice one.

2. Honestly, spending the weekends on my boat with my family has brought us closer together (You see, they are not real roomy inside, just cozy)

3. There is nothing like a sunset cruise...

4. I love going out on the lake when the wind is blowing. It doesn't affect me at all!

5. I have always dreamed of owning a big boat. I have been around lakes and boats all my life and now my son cannot share this admiration.

6. I love fresh water and the short drive to the lake, DON'T tell me to move to the Gulf.

Can someone tell me what this has to do with development????
