I think the post about a boat hitting a car was from an urban legand. Cars are not positively buoyant, they sink. I have looked on every maritime warning network web site I could find. Every chart indicates where wreckage exists there are warning buoys...

As for wood or other floating debris, stay in the prop wash zone of someone else and let them clear the way :-)
