HTMLman, your assessment of radar capabilities is very interresting. Perhaps you have gained alot of physics insight while sitting at your keyboard? Or perhaps you are a police officer? I know I am not one, and that I have no clue what the capabilities and limitations of the differing types of traffic radar. You will not see a police officer making statements on this board concerning limitations/capabilities of their equipment. It is in their best interest to stay out of this debate. My father is a 24 year veteran police officer. My Step Mother is an 18 year veteran traffic officer. She has operated traffic radar for this entire time. The statement made by them is that lidar would not be affected whatsoever by wave action of the water, and that they can pinpoint their beam at the windshield or bow or any other part of a boat and get a very accurate speed reading. My guess is that the marine police want to focus their energy productively...
