You can use a boat without anti-foulant paint in salt water for a least a week at a time without damage. Once you bottom paint a boat it is very difficult to get off or paint over. Only ablative bottom paints can be used on trailered boats--regular bottom paints 'die' once they're taken out of the water and cease to be effective the next time you put in salt water.

You will not need bottom paint in Lake Martin. Pressure washing after a season in the water is all that is needed.

I've had boats in salt water for 25 years.
