Subject:   Need Variance for '07 Winter?

Based on the this year and last year, would it not make sense for APCO to seek a variance from the Corp of Engineers regarding the winter pool level. Last year the high was 488 and this year it appears it will be 486, if we do not get several tropical storms.

Does it not make sense for APCO to seek a variance as the dam produces hydro power and based on the lake level from the articles I have read state they have not been producing hydro power and instead using coal, which is a lot more expensive.

Could APCO not seek a variance for this winter draw down then based on the projected rain fall levels in the Spring adjust the lake level accordingly, if needed. As I believe the dam was originally built for flood control as well, however today I do not believe flood control is an issue with respect to Martin Dam, but I could be mistaken.

Point is does it not make sense for APCO to have as much water as possible in Martin during its peak electrical needs and therefore seek a variance for the winter draw down level based on the past 2 years.

Yes I know if it continues to drop we will be at winter pool befroe we know it, but I am sure we will get some rain this summer and the lake will rise here an there, but never to 488 or so in my opinion.

So should we be emailing APCO inquiring about a variance for the winter draw down and see if they have sought such, as it makes sense to me?
