I had a 8' RHI (rigid hull inflatable) growing up and we could just get it to plane up with a 4 HP envinrude with myself and my younger brother in it. We put an 8 HP mariner on it and it would do pretty good. I would say that you would need at least a 15. I would check some engine manufactures websites or call a local motor retailer. Also the boat should have a max HP rating. Too much motor and you could rip the transom off.
