The year was 1958 or maybe 59 and I was only twelve when my Dad, and his best friend decided to look for a lake lot. They put in a canoe and off they paddled along the clear still waters of our beautiful Lake Martin. At the end of the day they each picked out a lot of their choice. There was not even a road to our lot. My Dad, Mother, older brother and grandmother would hike every weekend thru the woods to our little bit of heaven on earth. As time passed by we would build and add to our little cabin as well as add to the memories of my childhood. As I look back I can see my mother yelling for me to come help her as she sat on a eight pound large mouth bass which she had just caught and drug up to the bank. We mounted it and it still hangs on our wall. My Mom, and Dad are gone now but every time I sit on our porch and look out over the same beautiful water where my children and their children now play I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye thinking about what this place means to me and my family. When you talk about value how do you put a price on what those things mean. A day will come someday when it is time to leave this place but at this time in my life no amount of money in the world could tempt me to leave this lake water or no water. I am sure that I speak for many others on this issue.
