Thanks for the kind words MartiniMan. You are dead on with this post. I am ornery (grey headed too). You are absolutely correct that I agree that anyone that wants a McMansion and has the capacity to buy/build has EVERY right to do so. And to clarify, not all McMansion owners are like I described, but some are. Unfortunately in life it is the 'vocal minority' that gets the most attention.

You will find very few posts where I attack somebody without something derogatory having been said about me, or to me first. I do fly off the handle at times in regards to certain posters, but others I make it a point NOT to respond to unless they invoke my name first.

As for your investment, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Owning any lake or vacation home should be about memories not dollars. One of my sisters owns a lot in Blue Creek. Her two kids have been after her for years to build on it. She has the money, having been a miser all her life. She is as tight as bark on a tree with her money...lol. Her excuse is if something happens to her she wants to be sure the kids are in good shape. They are. Both are married making good incomes. Her daughter tells her they would rather have a lake house than any money she may leave them. It is NOT about the value of a LM home, but the MEMORIES that are created. She wants to leave her kids with the memories of coming to the lake, just like she had coming to our fathers place when they were young.

I hope you, and every other LM home owner, live long enough to create memories that your kids and grandkids will treasure long after we are gone. That is what Lake Martin Living is all about IMHO.
