I just reread my posts below. I was in a hurry and mispoke a little. Water does not neccesarily 'pass thru' the turbines but is held in them. The wooden 'spacers' must stay wet at all times. That prevents them form warping and is how they were still in almost pristine condition when they were replaced during the recent turbine rebuild. Incredibly after 80 years of technological advancement the same wood (from south america but the name ecapes me right now) was put back in during the rebuild. No metal or polycarbonite alloy has proven to be as effective. And the tolerances on these things are measured in microns, as I am sure you are aware. There are pics on this site #2 generator while is was being rebuilt.

Now here is where we disagree. I still say water is passing thru, else how are the daily flows being maintained? Even osms down below stated there have only been 11 minor evets with the turbines in all of 2008. We in day 82. Water was released each day to meet minimum outflows. How would that be possible with only 11 days in which the turbines ran for a short time?

You obviuosly have more knowledge than the 'average Joe' in regards to the dam, but so do I. Maybe you should do a little more 'research' next time before challenging others. What was your Grandfathers name? I am sure I have seen it before if he was involved in the design of the dam.
