We regularly see campers on islands in the Sandy Creek area so I suspect it is allowed and actually looks like a lot of fun. It is rare to see more than one boat on an island so it can be pretty isolated in case of an emergency but there is usually a lot of boat traffic during the day and cell phone service over most of the area. I would check on the campfire issue as we have had fires in the Smith Mountain area over the last couple of years with the drought so there may be some restrictions.

Best place to check is probably with the Marine Police.
