The ballast that sends voltage to the bulb would be my guess. I used a 6x6x4 box and put the sensor on the outside so it would cycle on and off, I think the other person used a 4x4x4 box and put the sensor inside so it only comes on when plugged in. I'll check mine this weekend and if it feels very hot I'll unplug it and research the heat range of the box.
It is the gray plastic exterior box sold at home depot
