I actively scan the shoreline on my jet ski or canoe looking for snakes every time I'm at the lake ( for the last 5 years) . I see water snakes on a regular basis but have never seen a venomous one . In fact , I submitted the picture of the Midland water snake in the Photo gallery. These snake will bite and are very territorial, yet every time I come across one , it's getting the heck away from me ASAP. These critters belong in the lake just like the fish, turtles and invertabrates. It's best to let them be, and teach kids to respect them.
